“SS-MMXIII furthers our mantra of “clothing as empty vessel” and leads us into wide, open and vacant spaces.
Upon stepping into emptiness, a form of meditation can take place if we are willing, clearing our thoughts and allowing us a pure energy and focus.
Void of distraction, one can stare hard into the horizon and witness the impossible imagery created by hot and empty air.
This phenomenon known as Fata Morgana (often referred to as the mirage) deeply inspires us — rather than working with the printed textile, we’ve materialized the metaphor of bending nothing (air) into something (mirage) through the traditional Japanese craft of Shibori.
Similar to Fata Morgana’s shapes which shift in the blink of an eye without rhyme or reason, Shibori renders no two pieces alike… and this beautiful inconsistency we have embraced.
We’ve continued to fly our flag of understatement, functionality and versatility, but our playful palette of lagoons, sapphires and papayas, against stark whites and a raw chambray, have kept SS-MMXIII far from conservative. Finally, our staple denims slightly evolve as expected, yet never lose sight of their purpose.”
