Memorial Day – usually means some half-assed grilling goes down on Saturday complemented by a nap later in the afternoon when the humidity hits. (Note – rituals weirdly symmetrical to those of Labour Day.) Both weekends are the bookends of summer, and as such it is important to observe them in an appropriately laid-back and lazy fashion.
Ideally, the holiday weekend would be spent somewhere like Brookings or Seaside Oregon; taking surfing lessons in chilly Pacific waters by day and eating ice-cream for dinner at night. Longboarding barefoot to bookstores and long patio lunches complemented by une Ricard or three also encouraged. Especially so if done while wearing those navy viscose wide-leg trousers from Chloe.
Summer demands easy to pull-on and take-off clothing and an un-fussed demeanor to match. Enter pull-over-the-head dresses, open-top totes, and zipper-free pants. Finally.
